Inspiring words from Erwin McManus in this interview:
+ The best way to do more good is to give more resources to good people. Good and generous people always make the world better.
+ Why have we convinced ourselves that junk is more spiritual, and that creating beautiful things is out of God’s will? Everything we make or create or purchase is an extension of ourself - a reflection of our identity.
+ I am not rare or uniquely talented, I’m just tenacious and unwilling to live a lesser life.
+ Why is it that instead of cheering each other on, and celebrating each others uniqueness and creativity, we more more easily to judgement and condemnation? We’ll continue to lose our most gifted people and most unique voices if we insist everyone conform to our expected approaches and norms.
+ The tribe of Jesus should be the worlds best storytellers, creators of beauty and interpreters of the human journey.
Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with their song still in them.

I just finished up Start Something That Matters by Blake Mycoskie. It was a great read for those of us who channel our passions and talents for good, whether it’s a for-profit business, a non-profit organization or a side project to raise awareness of a certain issue. Here’s a few good quotes from the book:
+ If you organize your life around your passion, you can turn your passion into your story and then turn your story into something bigger - something that matters.
+ Everyone who succeeds battles through adversity. The more you read biographies, talk to successful people, and listen to business leaders speak, the more you’ll hear about mistakes, screw-ups, fears and failures.
+ The success of most ventures actually lies on the execution phase, not in the idea.
+ By starting small, you can work though your story, try out your idea, and test your mettle. There’s a Japanese concept known as kaizen, which says that small improvements made every day will lead to massive improvement overall.
+ The easier it is for someone to understand who you are and what you stand for, the easier it will be for that person to spread the word to others. Having a clear function, design, and purpose means that your story can be spread easily. Someone must understand it before they can adopt it or purchase it. It’s really that simple.
+ Whoever you are and whatever you do, giving is important. Start now. Start by helping other people - anyone you can. Do something simple. You don’t have to start a business or a big initiative right away - you can begin just by changing your mindset. Commit to seeing the world through the lens of how you can initiate meaningful change.
It is always the simple things that change our lives.
